“Legend of Arbor : Actualisation of game-based pollution-absorbing tree species educational media in addressing climate change”

InspirationCurrent climate change is significantly influenced by human activities. Various actions carried out by humans, from industry to energy use, have contributed greatly to increasing greenhouse gas emissions, which are the main cause of global warming. Burning fossil fuels, deforestation, agriculture and food production, energy use and plastic use are community activities that are the main causes of climate change.

Carbon dioxide (CO2) is one of the main greenhouse gases that contributes to global climate change. The increase in CO2 concentration in the atmosphere is caused by various human activities and has a significant impact on the earth's temperature and environmental conditions. The increase in CO2 concentration in the atmosphere causes a greenhouse effect, where heat from the sun is trapped and cannot be reflected back into space. Carbon dioxide emissions due to human activities are the main cause of climate change which requires serious attention and collective action to mitigate for the sake of environmental sustainability and human life in the future. One of the challenges in this phenomenon is the lack of public awareness and action in minimizing the impact of increasing greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere. Lack of public knowledge is the main cause of lack of awareness and lack of action. Based on the problems above, the author has an idea to overcome this, namely the use of the "Legend Arbor" application, which is a game-based educational medium for pollution-absorbing tree species in overcoming climate change." This is an effective way considering that the majority of Indonesian people already use smartphones. Based on CNN Indonesia research results, around 89% of Indonesians already use smartphones. So Legend Arbor is one of the applications that comes with an attractive concept for the public which relies on learning while playing strategies to increase public awareness in overcoming climate change. The following is a detailed explanation of the application.

Initial view of the game The initial display shows the characters in the game who will complete the challenges at each level of the game. Apart from that, the initial display also illustrates the problem of environmental pollution in an area.

Login display Before starting to complete missions in the game, players must log in first using the account that has been created. If you haven't created an account, you can open an account using your personal email or Google account.

Game preview video display (can be skipped) The game preview video will provide an overview of the game system and appearance when the game starts. However, the video can also be skipped.

Display of the features in the game application Educational Features (the aim is to find out the types of trees that absorb GHG) Educational features will help players to complete the challenges of this game. Players will gain knowledge about overcoming pollution problems in the surrounding environment by recognizing tree species that have a greater ability to absorb or sequester certain greenhouse gases. The types of trees introduced are also related to the suitability of each tree to absorb or sequester certain GHGs. This knowledge is the first step in completing every challenge in this game.

Game Features The game will start with a display of the levels to be achieved, starting from level 1 with a low difficulty level. After tapping level 1, players will be shown an animation depicting environmental conditions affected by pollution, then after some time, the display changes to an animation showing stands of trees with various types in them. Players are instructed to choose suitable tree types in the tree stand animation in order to solve the pollution problem that was previously shown. Then, if the player can complete the challenge at that level, the challenge will continue to the next level with a higher level of difficulty.

Partnership Features Players can get information regarding partnerships in the nearest tree seedling nursery. This partnership feature contains a path to get nearby tree seeds for free. The existence of a tree seedling partnership feature can increase players' awareness of planting trees as a first step in preventing climate change. The information contained in this feature includes addresses (map of partner locations), partner contact persons, and terms and conditions for collecting free tree seedlings.
