Inspiration
Since it is our first Hackathon, we decided on building a website that displayed what we are passionate about. We believe that this website would assist the community in exploring recipes, and those who share the same interests as us in baking. The motivation behind this website is to demonstrate the simple navigation through each category of cakes, cookies, donuts, brownies, and drinks. Most of the recipe websites have superfluous background stories that become an interruption to the target of the website in general. We wanted to showcase a website that contained recipes free of charge, with precisely the ingredients we needed without any other not useful information. Due to this reason, we decided on building a website of all the food items we made over the quarantine.
What it does
Keke's Kafe provides 5 different sets of specialty dessert choices, including cakes, cookies, donuts, brownies, and drinks. Each subpage gives at least 2 unique recipes with set prep time, cook time, ingredients, and directions for your ease. We hope to share our love of baking with viewers and aspiring bakers.
How we built it
In order to make this website successful, we had to learn a lot of new things. Most of us being beginners at the hackathon, did not have any prior experience in making a professional website with an interactive interface. Kareena and Esha learned some key components of HTML and CSS and as a team, we implemented our creative ideas into the attractive design of the website. Krishna got the opportunity to practice HTML and CSS skills. As a team, we all developed interpersonal skills after working together with a solid team for our first hackathon. We used Canva for the designs that contained all the recipes.
Challenges we ran into
We occasionally faced some formatting issues regarding the insertion of pictures and texts, however, we were able to overcome these challenges by utilizing online resources and figuring out alternate paths. For instance, instead of submitting an image as a title for each of our recipe pages, we used regular text with a special downloaded font from Google Fonts.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Esha and Kareena got the chance to learn some components of HTML and CSS while also implementing their creative capabilities on Canva. Krishna was able to deliver a clean website with multiple subpages and CSS applications after properly coding the designs and suggestions made by Esha and Kareena. Most of all, we all developed interpersonal skills and bonded together as a team.
