Inspiration

The inspiration behind our mobile app, KeepUp, stems from the growing issues of loneliness and disconnection prevalent in today's society. We understand that in an increasingly digital and fast-paced world, many individuals are feeling more isolated and disconnected from their communities. As found in a 2023 Meta-Gallup survey, nearly 1 in 4 adults across the world have reported feeling very or fairly lonely.

What it does

The KeepUp app is a dynamic and interactive community-building platform designed to empower residents to stay engaged and make a positive impact on their city. Here's what it offers:

  • Stay Informed: Stay up-to-date with local news, ensuring residents are well-informed about the latest developments and events in their community.

  • Functional Features: The app includes essential features such as a functional login, forgot password, signup, homepage, reporting page, and more, ensuring a seamless user experience.

How we built it

After designing app mockups in Figma, we utilized HTML and CSS to craft the frontend UIs. For the backend and real-time database functionality, we seamlessly integrated Firebase. Leveraging the power of JavaScript, we manipulated data as needed and successfully merged the frontend and backend components.

To bring our app to the online realm, we opted for Netlify as our hosting platform. Throughout the development process, our learning journey extended beyond initial skill sets.

Challenges we ran into

Our journey with KeepUp was marked by several challenges, each presenting an opportunity for growth and learning. Some key hurdles we faced included:

  • Mastering Firebase's Realtime Database: Implementing Firebase's Realtime Database proved to be a significant challenge. Overcoming this hurdle required dedicated effort and a deep dive into understanding the intricacies of real-time data management.

  • Time Constraints and Task Management: Juggling these challenges within the constraints of time added an additional layer of complexity. Careful planning and prioritization became crucial to meet deadlines without compromising on the quality of our work.

Our journey with KeepUp has been filled with noteworthy achievements that reflect our dedication and collaborative spirit. Some of our proudest accomplishments include:

  • Learning Firebase: Mastering Firebase was a significant milestone for us. The acquisition of this skill not only empowered us during the development of KeepUp but also expanded our toolkit for future projects.

  • Effective Team Collaboration: Working on a great team has been instrumental in the success of KeepUp. Our effective collaboration, communication, and mutual support enhanced both the development process and the quality of the final product.
