Inspiration

I've spent a lot of time talking with people from all over the world during the Covid-19 pandemic. What I began to notice while conversating with my friends from Pakistan, India, and Turkey was that more often than not big life altering need for them could be addressed and resolved with amount of USD that is not as life altering for most in the states. Most charitable organizations that do provide helps for "people" living in these needier regions of the world, more often than not fail to address the specific needs of individuals in the region. Crowdfunding exists, but usually in the form of an individual asking for thousands of dollars at a time. Keepwe seeks not only to make possible the "everyday" philanthropist but also to increase the impact of charity on individual through increases transparency.

What it does

We have decided to tackle these issues by creating a charity application called Keeper that addresses transparency and seeks to maximize the impact of everyday philanthropy. To complete this task, we would like to eliminate all “middlemen” in charitable processes. This will be completed by having our application deposit funds directly into the bank accounts of donation recipients instead of donors giving money to a charity that provides cash to the recipients. One feasible approach includes using blockchain to make the process more traceable, transparent, and reliable.

How we built it

We used html/ejs and CSS for the front end, mongob and MySQL for the backend, and love <3.

Challenges we ran into

The database integration was the biggest challenge that we ultimately did not entirely resolve. For a long period of time out website was not appearing and we had to work around that to still finish our beautiful front end design. Additionally, because Google sent us an expired credit for the platform services, we were unable to integrate our translation functionality into our website.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We've made a responsive beautiful frontend design and learned how to debug database integration bugs. We also worked well as a team without prior experience with each other.

What we learned

If there's a will there's a way! When our site was no longer working, we eventually figured out that we should transfer our files elsewhere to continue our work.

What's next for Keeper

Once we get our platform credits, we will integrate a translation functionality into our website. We will also be exploring blockchain further to assist with the donation side of Keeper.
