Inspiration

I forget the things I most want to remember. Like if someone mentioned an allergy at dinner or the interview they're having next Tuesday, etc... Apps exist for this, but I want something personal and private.

What it does

Keepen is a board for the people you love. A month grid with what's coming, a grid of faces and a screen per person holding every information you know about them, like what they like, dislike, general information, events, etc... And on top there's a chat that answers as that person, from your notes, running on an AI model that lives on the phone.

How we built it

We used Expo SDK 57, TypeScript. Zustand over MMKV for state that hydrates synchronously, so no screen ever shows a spinner. Unistyles for theming. Software Mansions ExecuTorch for the on-device LLM and Whisper. A local Expo module wrapping Apple's Vision and Android's ML Kit for the photo cut-outs. Local notifications for reminders, RevenueCat for Pro.

Challenges we ran into

It's hard to pitch an idea like this without it sounding like surveillance, so I'm thinking of open-sourcing it eventually when the challenge is finished. Stay tuned :D

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Mostly, we're proud to have made the app completely private, with no reliance on any third parties that could harvest user data. We're also able to run local LLMs directly on the device to impersonate the person you're talking to.

What we learned

When dealing with small models, it's very tricky to get it to output what you want. Even the smallest changes in the prompt can vastly change the output of the LLM.

What's next for Keepen

A lot actually, We feel like the whole farm theme is a bit too much, so we're playing with newer ideas to rework the app from the ground up.
