With the large number of web connected mobile devices, especially the growing Android platform, more and more people around the world have the capability to keep up to date with what's going on around them. Keep Up With The Flu is a widget and tool for Android devices that keeps users informed about the latest flu reports from the CDC. Keep Up With The Flu is two applications in one. The first part is an Android home screen widget that keeps the user informed about flu activity in his or her area. Using the GPS capabilities of the Android device, Keep Up With The Flu automatically checks the CDC flu reports for updates in the user's area. If there are changes in flu activity, a notification is sent to the user, allowing him or her to take appropriate action to prevent the flu. As an Android widget, it is non intrusive - users can easily scroll to the home screen view to see what the current flu report for his or her area is without the need to launch an application or go to a website. The user can also configure the widget to display notifications in the status bar only when the flu report changes, or when there's a new update. The second part of the application is a useful news and feed reader that connects the user to the CDC's flu resources. Users can view news and updates, twitter feeds, podcasts and videos from the CDC.
