Inspiration
My sister has been walking into my room while I play video games and she doesn't make enough noise to let me know she's there until she spoops me good.
What it does
Detects suspiciously quiet children entering my room, and flashes lights to warn me of their entering
How I built it
When I decided to do this project, I basically went straight into figuring out how my sensor works, and once I got that, I could use it to detect distance from the nearest object. Using that distance, I made an array of recent values to compare and keep the alarm from randomly going off. Then the lights were wired up on each side so they alternate their reds and blues. I also fiddled with a servo motor but I explain that later. Despite it sounding fairly simple I learned a lot of new stuff and got a cute little boye
Challenges I ran into
the servo I wanted to use as a janky alternative for a noise making device kept messing with the sensor and it wouldnt stop flashing and vibrating and flashing and vibrating and flashing and-
Accomplishments that I're proud of
My photography of the finished product looks absolutely friggin' delectable.. like I would physically consume the images if possible
What I learned
I definitely should plan a little better to work on something I already know and can do in the timeframe of a hackathon, since I had to switch projects halfway through. But also, switching plans halfway kept me from nearly dying at 6 am trying to fix something Ive never dealt with before.
What's next for The keep-my-sister-from-sneaking-up-and-scaring-the-bejeezus-out-of-me-inator™:
Most likely I will implement a power saving system so it can be easily switched on and off, and some sort of noise also seems necessary for future versions, also some sort of cutesy decoration to use the face-lookin' sensor on front.
