Inspiration
The idea for this game came from personal experience. My girlfriend and I enjoyed playing physical card games designed to spark conversations and deepen our relationship.
What it does
This iOS app, "Keep it Sweet," is a fun and engaging card game for couples. The app has different categories of cards that ask relationship-related questions. There’s a "spicy" category, which adds a bit of intimacy and allows couples to explore conversations that may bring them closer. It’s perfect for dates, whether in person or virtual, offering an easy way to break the ice, get to know each other better, and strengthen the relationship.
How we built it
We used Swift to develop the iOS app, with the game logic based around randomly drawing cards from different categories. The interface is intuitive, focusing on a clean, romantic aesthetic. The app also incorporates user-friendly UI/UX design elements to ensure smooth navigation. There's a mirror option that mirrors the UI so you can play it while sitting with your partner at the table.
Challenges we ran into
Positioning in the App Store is hard. I've also unfished game "Guess who" which will be part of this app. I've also not verified that there's a market for it. I decided to make this only for subscribers, so there's a hard paywall.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
It actually works. We've played it, and the truth is, it only takes a few questions and then a whole new conversation starts and you can close the app and enjoy the date.
What we learned
It's fun to make games. Building something that balances light-hearted fun with intimacy in a tasteful way was a unique challenge.
What's next for Keep it sweet
I'm working on including a daily prompt feature, where users can receive a question or task every day to help them stay connected, potentialy a widget. As well as more couple features - like anniversary date, planning dates etc.
