Inspiration
With today's digital era, it would be a fool not to leverage the tools of technology we have, to develop interesting and interactive modes of training for professionals.
Professionals need to be trained constantly, but whilst the desire to be train is there, the tools available for effective training is far and few. Limitations exists in terms of individual perspective, availability of time, market options available, and frictional connectivity between organisations/regulatory bodies.
What it does
It builds an interactive internet-based platform where professionals can find latest insights, industry-based updates, company listing/service offerings, careers tips, events, and a discussion forum.
How We built it
Hypertext markup language (HTML) for the platform basic page to be interpreted by the web surfing browser, with javascript as an advanced programming language to make the platform more interactive with audience, styled by Cascading Style Sheet (CSS) to improve presentation, formatting and layout to appeal to the audience, and with a forum by node-JS (faster execution speed than PHP).
Challenges We ran into
Lack of time to complete the project, which required some patience and discipline to solve the bugs in the code. The team also needed more resources such as funding and manpower to execute the project providing real, lasting innovation that is the intended outcome of the hackathon.
Lack of professional feedback within the team. Whilst there were many professional speakers, we did not have professional teammates that had a vested interest in developing the project. Perhaps there were mentors, but they were of different quality and hence some did not have a vested interest in helping the project.
Energy sustenance is also needed within the project, whilst we had a good idea, we did not have energy morale within us to ensure that group working morale were maintain so that everyone remained focused towards the completion of the project.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Participating in one of my first hackathons finding out the multiple opportunities for us to network with other accounting professionals and cross-sector such as technology-savy professional and engineers. It was energizing to find out about the people in the community who have the same ideas or even explore the diverse perspectives
Ability to use the chance to stretch my limits, through the testing and further develop knowledge
Feeling a sense of accomplishment coming up with innovative solutions to existing problems
Formally developing a digital portfolio, a step closer towards developing a brand in the tech community
What we have learned
Especially since I (Joey) am not from a technological or engineering background, the part about learning about the different software tools available in the market that we have at our disposal, is an extremely useful experience
We have learn that there will always be solutions to problems as long as we remain balanced to perspectives of others, and persist in seeking them out
