Inspiration
SevaLink was born out of the need to simplify and enhance the volunteering experience. The inspiration came from observing the fragmented landscape of volunteering opportunities and the lack of motivation for volunteering in today's youth. Seeing the limited volunteering options and the lack of motivation sparked the idea for Sevalink. We wanted to make giving back as easy and engaging as playing a game.
What it does
It aggregates volunteer jobs from a wide range of NGOs and government schemes, offering a centralized platform for discovery and action. But we're not just a job board. We gamify volunteering! Earn V-coins for every hour you contribute, then redeem them for cool rewards and swag. Track your progress with achievements, earn recognition for your dedication, and climb the leaderboard of social impact.
How we built it
The development process involved creating a user-friendly interface that seamlessly connects volunteers with opportunities and allows organizations to post openings easily. The V-Coin system required thoughtful integration to ensure fairness and transparency in reward distribution. The achievement system was designed to motivate volunteers to level up their impact.
Challenges we ran into
Challenges were met during the platform's development, such as balancing the gamification elements without overshadowing the seriousness of volunteering. Striking the right partnerships with NGOs and Government bodies was crucial for content diversity. Implementing a secure and reliable reward system posed technical challenges but was successfully overcome.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Sevalink is more than just a website; it's a movement. I believe that gamified volunteering can unlock the potential of a new generation of socially conscious individuals, ready to make a real difference in the world. We had already built the basic working prototype using Next.js and MongoDB and planned out all the rewards and achievement systems.
What we learned
I learned how hard it is to implement a business model and a working prototype of such an idea. such as balancing the gamification elements without overshadowing the seriousness of volunteering. and making this idea self-sustaining and relying on external funds and resources. But we designed it by striking the correct balanced
What's next for SevaLink
Having initiated this project just two days ago, my immediate focus is to dedicate time to refining and polishing the website to ensure it's ready for production. To kickstart our impact, we plan to establish partnerships with local NGOs. This will not only broaden the range of volunteering options but also contribute to the diversity of content on our platform. As we grow, we aim to attract more NGOs and government schemes, creating a centralized hub for volunteering opportunities. The reward system is sustained through advertisements and donations from our partnered NGOs and companies. As we secure more partnerships, we anticipate expanding our rewards, thereby attracting a larger pool of volunteers and making a more significant impact.
