Inspiration

Who doesn’t love a game that’s both fun and rewarding? Inspired by legendary quiz shows like Who Wants to Be a Millionaire and Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC), we thought, what if we bring the thrill of winning rewards into the world of learning? Finance and economics can feel daunting, but what if they could be made as exciting as winning the jackpot on a game show?

With this idea, Kaun Banega FinGuru was born, a quiz game where your knowledge doesn’t just make you smarter but also lets you win points to redeem goodies! Learning has never been this fun.

What it does

Kaun Banega FinGuru transforms the boring into the brilliant:

  1. Quiz Fun Meets Learning: Answer 15 questions spread across three levels: Easy, Medium, and Difficult. Each correct answer earns you points:

    • Easy: 10 points
    • Medium: 20 points
    • Difficult: 30 points

  2. Lifelines to the Rescue: Stuck on a tricky question? Use one of these lifelines:

    • Ask AI: Get a quick, real-life example or concept explanation to nudge you toward the right answer.
    • 50:50: Eliminate two wrong options and make the choice easier.
    • Skip Question: Bypass the tough one and move ahead without penalty.

  3. Dynamic Questions: Every game feels fresh with randomly fetched questions tailored to each difficulty level.

  4. End with a Bang: If you give a wrong answer or time runs out, the quiz ends, your score is displayed, and you get to see the points you’ve earned so far.

  5. Redeem Rewards: Use your hard-earned points to grab goodies! From exciting vouchers to exclusive items, there’s always something worth playing for.

How we built it

This app was crafted with care using Flutter for a seamless user experience and Firebase Firestore for dynamic functionality:

  1. Frontend: Designed with Flutter for smooth, intuitive navigation and visually appealing UI screens like Splash, Signup, Entry, Quiz, Rewards, and Dashboard.
  2. Backend: Firebase Firestore stores and manages quiz questions, user data, and rewards information in real time.
  3. Authentication: Firebase Authentication ensures secure user signup and login.
  4. Lifeline Logic: Lifeline usage is dynamically tracked and updated in Firestore, ensuring fairness and engagement.
  5. App State Management: Smooth gameplay with real-time state updates for questions, scores, and lifeline availability.

Challenges we ran into

  • Going Solo: The entire project was designed, built, and executed by me alone, which meant taking on every role, from ideation to coding to debugging.
  • Balancing Simplicity and Depth: Creating a quiz that’s easy to understand yet engaging enough to keep users coming back was a delicate balance.
  • Lifeline Implementation: Designing lifelines to work seamlessly with real-time Firestore updates was challenging but rewarding.
  • Dynamic Questions: Ensuring unique and relevant questions for every game required efficient database queries.
  • Rewards System: Crafting a reward system that motivates without overwhelming took careful planning and execution.

What we learned

  • The Power of Persistence: Tackling challenges alone helped me develop a deeper understanding of the development process and honed my problem-solving skills.
