Inspiration

We have many friends that we from our hometowns that we aren't able to talk to as much because we go to a different school. Life gets busy and it becomes harder to talk to long distance friends and family. We understand, so we wanted to make a website that'll help keep people together even when they are far apart.

What it does

Katchup helps keep people close when they are far apart. Katchup has many functions to do so, such as picture gallery, letter logs, and schedule building. With the picture gallery, each user has to upload 3 photos a week so they can share their recent comings and goings with their friends. With the letter log, each user has the chance to send a letter to their friend containing information about their day, or anything else they want. With schedule building, users are able to coordinate times with their friends to meet up, either in person, or over call. These main features work together to help foster long distance friendships.

How we built it

We used Supabase, Javascript, Node.js, HTML, CSS, and Google Cloud APIs within VSCode in order to create our website.

Challenges we ran into

We had trouble implementing some of the features that we wanted. We had never really used some of the frameworks that we had used for this project, which led to some confusion. Similarly, we had many merge conflicts and organization issues.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are very proud of this project. We are quite proud of how much we were able to accomplish in such a short amount of time. We are also quite proud of how much we were able to learn and use our new skills to create such a great website.

What we learned

This was our first time using databases and APIs. We learned a lot about how we can utilize databases to save data and APIs to integrate information into our website. We also learned the importance of branch protection.

What's next for Katchup

Bug fixes, new feature implementations, and much more!
