Inspiration
John Deere Hackathon
What it does
It smooths out sand in a sandbox.
How we built it
We started from a whiteboard and spent time near the sandbox trying to decide the best way to explore and smooth the sandbox. Brainstorming took a significant amount of time on the first day. After this, we split into a mechanical team and software team. We divided and conquered.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into significant challenges when it came to adapting the smoothing component and implementing the exploration.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are especially proud of creating a "random" exploration algorithm for movement inspired by ball bounce. We are also proud of adapting our module given unexpected last minute difficulties that were discovered after printing.
What we learned
We learnt a lot about the implementation of movement and search algorithms throughout this project. Alongside this, we learnt it is better to adapt to newer ideas rather than thinking through and finding a way through a dead end.
What's next for KASI - John Deere Make-A-Thon
We plan to look into implementing computer vision and improving the CAD module to improve the dispersion of sand.
