Inspiration
I wanted to bridge the gap between local food shops and modern efficiency. Many small business owners in my community are drowning in unorganized WhatsApp messages and manual order tracking.
What it does
Kasi Bites acts as a WhatsApp-to-Dashboard engine. It transforms chaotic customer chat threads into an automated, structured queue. Shop owners get a real-time dashboard to manage orders, track status, and notify customers, all without leaving their familiar WhatsApp workflow.
How I built it
- Backend: Java with an
HttpServerfor a lightweight, fast backend. - Communication: Twilio API for WhatsApp integration.
- Data Management: A structured flat-file storage system (
orders.txt,menu.txt) to maintain state.
Challenges I ran into
Managing concurrency with incoming WhatsApp messages and ensuring state consistency during rapid-fire orders was the main hurdle.
Accomplishments I'm proud of
Creating a functional, automated messaging-to-dashboard workflow that is simple enough for non-technical shop owners to use effectively.
What I learned
I gained deep insight into real-time API integrations, webhook handling, and the importance of clean state management in small-scale business applications.
What's next for Kasi Bites
Future updates will focus on an "Order History" feature for business insights and an automated "Menu Management" interface.
