Inspiration

We were inspired by lots of things. Twisted Metal and Mario Kart were at the core of the feel we wanted to capture! We wanted an environment we felt we could do in the timeframe, so we went for a route 66 Monument Valley theme!

What it does

Its an ability based brawl racer, with extensive kart customization. Players can choose from 36 customization options for their kart! They then load in, compete and use abilities and boost pads to eliminate and outcompete opponents to the finish line.

How we built it

Using the desktop editor and blender! We had many discord working calls, where we coordinated, planned and assembled all components!

Challenges we ran into

Many.... There were very many platform bugs that set us back about a week of polish we had hoped to have. Such as script syncing issues, the seat gizmo getting broken, resetting servers and more. Along with this we made bot karts to play against solo, these were challenging and we didn't get to install all the abilities on them. The hardest thing so far was getting live placement for all the players without bogging down everyones ui with constant updates. As im writing this we are trying to fix it, so hopefully we get it! Our game was a little ambitious for the short timeline, but it sure was fun. There was a lot of adversity!

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am very proud that with all the adversity, we all stepped up to the plate and kept going while still having fun. We didnt get it to the polish we hoped, but I am very proud of how far we got in the short time. The game looks great, and plays well. We feel despite not being as far as we wanted that it is still a very solid and fun submission!

What we learned

To always figure in an extra week for dealing with platform bugs, and optimization.

What's next for Kart Clash Racing

So much! We really want to polish this game. We want to improve the abilities, and bots, and driving, as well as the progression system. There is so much little polish we could do, to make this feel like a really solid game, with a very enticing progression system and more tracks! Technical things we want to add, is ui popup after completing the race, better collider optimization, hazards, race specific leaderboards, tutorial, and better live placement ui design.
