Inspiration
Going to many different schools, we noticed one common problem that happens in all of them. They have a very inefficient carpool system which often ends up in long lines and angry parents. This is meant to stop that from happening ever again.
What it does
We use geo-localisation technologies and push notification system to alert the child when their parent is ready to pick them up.
How we built it
We used flutter to create a portable app on both android and ios. We used node and express.js to create the server. Finally, we used MongoDB to handle relationships between users and store locational data.
Challenges we ran into
We had never used flutter before this hackathon, so that was brand new to us. We also didn't know how we could calculate the distance between to sets of coordinates.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The fact that we were able to finish this on time is the thing we are proudest of. It was a real ordeal, but we managed to power through it. The UI and UX is also very simplistic and bare bones, but still very functional. Finally getting the location for the user is also something we are proud of.
What we learned
We learned how to create apps using flutter mainly and how to connect it to a backend, as we are mainly webdevs.
What's next for Karpull
We believe that Karpull could be an actual app in the future, with a bit more polish and elbow grease. We will continue to work on this after the results of the hackathon are published.
