Inspiration
Everyday as university students we face the struggles of travelling to Uni. We wanted to create new ways to park close to University and other similar busy places without the hassle and stress of racing for parkings.
What it does
We realised that there are spots hidden in plain sight - Driveways! At KARP we created a system that allows users to lease their driveway as a parking spot for a small fee. Drivers can come onto the app, and book a spot near their destination and save themselves the stress of looking for parking. So the next time you are heading to Uni, or that big sports game, or work in a busy area, you can sleep easy knowing that there is a place to park.
How we built it
We built out application using a combination of REACT with TypeScript and the Google Maps API along with other smaller public libraries. Our team collaborated on this code though git to implement individual components and backend that ultimately amalgamated into our pages. We styled out project though the use of tailwind and scss/sass resulting in a functional and visually appealing application called KARP!
Challenges we ran into
When working as a group of five with varying levels of experience in React - especially considering we are all first years - we struggled to create consistent code style and logic, and it took a long period of time to adapt to the new language and system.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Despite those challenges, in merely 24 hours, we managed to create working map software that allows users to create spots merely from clicking on a map and entering a few small details. Additionally, there are some great small features which make KARP stand out, such as the map providing you directions and expected driving time to your parking spot.
What we learned
Throughout the project we learned how to effectively communicate and work as a team, programming simultaneously to produce a product that looks like it was coded by an individual.
What's next for KARP - Parking Made Easy
In the future, KARP would aim implement money transfer, and then acquire real users. We want to change how the parking world is defined, so you never have to stress about driving again.
