Inspiration
Reddit is full of iconic moments, legendary inside jokes, and unforgettable comments. I wanted to build a game that celebrates Reddit culture and tests how well users really know their favorite communities and internet history.
What it does
Karma Guesser is a daily trivia game that presents players with famous or trending Reddit posts. The catch? The top comment is hidden! Players must guess the correct top comment from a list of options to maintain their daily streak, climb the leaderboard, and earn exclusive flair.
How we built it
We built the game using Devvit and TypeScript. We designed the core loop around an interactive post that pulls data from Reddit's most popular historical posts to create a constantly refreshing bank of questions.
Challenges we ran into
Designing an intuitive and snappy user interface within the constraints of an interactive feed post, and ensuring the daily refresh logic worked seamlessly for users across different time zones.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Creating a highly replayable and engaging core loop. It perfectly fits the "Games with a Hook" theme because it gives Redditors a fun, bite-sized reason to come back and play every single day to keep their streak alive.
What we learned
We learned a ton about leveraging the Devvit platform to build lightweight, fast, and interactive web experiences that live directly within the Reddit feed.
What's next for Karma Guesser
We'd love to add community-specific modes, allowing individual subreddits to host their own daily Karma Guesser using their own localized inside jokes and top posts!
