Inspiration

The idea for KarigarSetu came from a simple observation: Local artisans create beautiful, meaningful products, but most of them never get a fair chance to sell beyond their local markets.

Many artisans don’t struggle because of lack of talent as they struggle from language barrier , don’t understand online selling, or depend on middlemen who take most of the profit. At the same time, buyers want authentic, handmade products but rarely get to know the story or the person behind them.

We wanted to build something that feels less like a marketplace and more like a bridge between artisans and buyers. That’s how KarigarSetu was born.

What it does

Local artisans showcase and sell their products using AI-powered storytelling. An artisan can upload basic details or images of their product, and the platform turns that information into a clear, meaningful product story. Instead of just seeing a price and a photo, buyers understand and people get to know authentic products history. To make the experience accessible for everyone, KarigarSetu includes multilingual support, allowing users to explore and interact in languages they are comfortable with. We also integrated an AI-powered chatbot to guide new users. The chatbot helps them understand how the platform works, discover nearby artisan stores, and explore local exhibitions where products are showcased. Our USP(Unique Selling Point)- We have added Workshops feature where various authentic crafts such as pottery, Crafting, Art can be learnt from the Craftsmen. This empowers a new experience for the Users.

How we built it

We built KarigarSetu with one clear priority — keep it simple and useful for real people. The frontend is developed using React and deployed on Vercel, ensuring a fast, clean, and responsive experience for both artisans and buyers. We focused on an interface that feels intuitive, even for users who are not familiar with digital marketplaces.

At the core of the platform, we integrated Google Gemini to power AI-driven storytelling. Gemini helps transform basic product details into natural, culturally aware descriptions that reflect the artisan’s craft rather than generic marketing language.

Challenges we ran into

Challenges we ran into Technical Preventing AI-generated content from feeling generic or overly promotional. Designing a simple, intuitive interface for non-technical users. Scaling across languages and regions while keeping AI responses consistent.

Human & Cultural Preserving authenticity and cultural meaning in AI-generated stories. Building trust for artisans unfamiliar with digital platforms. Balancing platform growth with cultural sensitivity.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Building a working platform within hackathon time. Using AI in a way that actually helps people, not replaces them. Creating a project that blends technology with culture and social impact. Clearly demonstrating how Gemini can be used beyond chatbots.

What we learned

Good technology should solve real human problems AI is most powerful when it supports creativity and accessibility Simplicity matters more than complexity in impact-driven projects

What's next for KarigarSetu

In the future, we plan to: Add voice-based input in regional languages to make onboarding easier for artisans Improve discovery and personalization for buyers using smarter recommendations Partner with local artisan communities and NGOs to onboard creators at scale Build a scalable, cloud-ready architecture that can support more regions, languages, and artisans without losing performance or authenticity

Our long-term vision is to grow KarigarSetu into a global, scalable platform where local artisans are not just visible, but truly seen, heard, and valued.
