Inspiration

When we were kids we used to sing a lot! And we loved karaoke. We found out that there are no "cool" karaoke songs available on Alexa so we decided to change that.

What it does

It is probably first karaoke for kids on Alexa. It really works! (organically tested with kids and parents). There are 10 songs so far, each in two versions:

  • original (with vocals)
  • karaoke (instrumental)

Unforgettable songs are a great opportunity for a joint, full of laughter fun and child's music education. Create a chorus or sing in two voices. Help your child take his first steps in music.

How we built it

We have prerecorded all songs as video to allow highlighting the text and syncing it with music. Our talented graphics designer prepared beautiful layout and logos.

The rest was simple - couple weeks of coding and the skill gained beautiful visuals.

Challenges we ran into

Very often the view in the simulator was different to the one on actual devices (Show and Spot) - we had to try and fail multiple times to make the skill look good.

Accomplishments that we are proud of

It works! Organically tested with kids and their parents!

What we learned

That Alexa can be used not only for audio but also for video (visual) content - this opens a lot of new opportunities.

What's next for Karaoke for Kids

More songs! And it would be awesome to allow voice recording and sharing the karaoke performances ;)
