Problem description

As is the case with the mode of transmission of most of the viruses, particularly in the case of the coronavirus, transmission through touch is one of the biggest concerns. The longevity of the virus outside the human body, which can go up to a few days on some surfaces has created an immense need to sterilize the objects before they are touched or used. The current self sanitization methods being followed include washing with soap and usage of alcohol-based hand sanitizers. However, it would not be possible to follow this method with all the objects we touch.

Responding to this need, we propose a handheld UV light device, embedded into a glove, which could be used for this purpose.

It has been established through various studies that the UV-c light with a particular wavelength and intensity holds the ability to kill viruses and also being safe to the humans. This glove embedded UV light mechanism would let users conveniently sweep the surface of these daily use objects, thus averting the risks of the potential presence of the virus on the surface. The risk of transmission is reduced by one stage by the presence of the gloves and more comprehensively by the use of the UV light, breaking the virus transmission chain
