Why I built it

Some feelings and everyday moments are hard to capture in ordinary words. Kanji Jiten turns that curiosity into a creative dictionary where people can invent a character of their own.

What it does

Draw an original Kanji by hand, add its reading and meaning, and explore characters created by other people. The public dictionary and quizzes are available without an account; signing in enables publishing, favorites, and comments.

How it was built

The app is built with Flutter and uses RevenueCat for its optional supporter subscription. Its central design challenge is to make a hand-drawn character easy to create, explain, discover, and remember. The creation loop connects drawing, dictionary browsing, and quizzes so that original characters can be both shared and learned.

What the project explores

Kanji Jiten explores how playful language and community-created content can turn a personal drawing into a shared piece of wordplay.
