Inspiration
Campus life moves fast, and attention moves even faster. Students constantly discover products through social media, yet there’s no seamless way to instantly buy what they see without leaving the app. At the same time, campus marketplaces feel static and boring compared to modern content platforms. KampuzRide was inspired by the idea of merging the high-engagement, addictive nature of short-lived stories with the utility of a real marketplace — turning passive browsing into instant commerce.
What it does
KampuzRide is a 24-hour story-based marketplace where students post products, services, or updates as short-lived visual content (images/videos). Users can:
- View stories from sellers within their campus
- Instantly message or purchase items directly from a story
- Discover trending products through a dynamic feed
- Interact with sellers in real time
Unlike traditional marketplaces, KampuzRide makes discovery feel natural and spontaneous, increasing impulse buying and engagement.
How we built it
We built KampuzRide using a modern fullstack architecture:
- Frontend: Next.js + TypeScript + Tailwind CSS for a fast, responsive UI
- Backend: Node.js with Express for scalable APIs
- Database: PostgreSQL with Prisma ORM for structured data
- Real-time: WebSockets for instant messaging and live interactions
- Storage: Cloud storage for handling media (images/videos)
- Authentication: Email, OAuth, and optional wallet-based login
- Queue System: Background jobs for notifications and story expiration
We focused heavily on performance, ensuring smooth story playback, fast uploads, and real-time responsiveness.
Challenges we ran into
- Designing a smooth story-viewing experience without lag or buffering issues
- Handling real-time interactions (messages, views, engagement tracking) efficiently
