Inspiration
The inspiration for Kalm came from the increasing need for accessible mental wellness tools in a fast-paced, constantly connected world. I noticed that while many people use meditation or relaxation apps, they often lack immersive multimedia elements or are locked behind paywalls. I wanted to create a beautiful, distraction-free experience that helps users relax instantly—whether they’re on their phone or desktop—by simulating peaceful environments like beaches, forests, rain, or cozy fireplaces. The idea was to offer quick access to calm, anywhere and anytime, with minimal effort.
What it does
Kalm is a responsive web and mobile app that helps users relax and find inner peace through immersive audio and video experiences. Users can choose from calming environments like Beach, Forest, Rain, Fireplace, Yoga, and Relax, each designed to reduce stress and promote mindfulness. With just one click, users are transported into a peaceful state, whether they’re on the go or taking a mindful break at home.
How we built it
I one shotted this using Bolt.new for the One-Shot Challenge. To achieve this, I described to Bolt what I had on my mind, how the experience should look and feel & asked it to leverage on two different free APIs for the videos and Audio. Bolt took care of the rest.
Challenges we ran into
There were things I wanted to improve or change, but given the constraints of the one-shot challenge I left them untouched. Also, for example I noticed sometimes the app was re-using audio instead of giving a completely different audio each time, again this is something that can be easily resolved but would fall outside the one-shot challenge, so I kept it as is. It's not perfect of course, but it is incredibly good for a one-shot result.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
-Successfully added audio and video -The experience feels modern, clean and relaxing -I was able to achieve smooth transitions and automatic audio/video plays like I had intended.
What we learned
-When aiming for a one-shotted app it is best to plan and craft the prompt with care and as much detail as possible to ensure the end result is in line with your expectations. -Building Kalm taught me the importance of simplicity in user experience—especially for wellness-focused apps. I gained hands-on experience with responsive design techniques and integrating multimedia elements like audio and video in a lightweight, performant way. I also learned how to balance visual design with functionality to create a calming, distraction-free environment. Most importantly, I learned how small digital moments of peace can have a meaningful impact on users’ well-being.
What's next for Kalm -find your inner peace through immersive audio & video
-Improvements to the rotations of audio and video to ensure the experience feels completely unique each time. -Review and consider additional states, such as snowing. -Add Google Analytics and a custom domain name.
