Inspiration

Kalimba 95 is inspired by the Y2K era's of operating systems and colorful styles.

What it does

It is a game that challenges you to sort files and avoid viruses within a time limit.

How we built it

We built it using Kiro Agentic AI CLI and Claude Opus 5.5.

Challenges we ran into

Kalimba 95 was not our original project. At 3AM, 8 hours before the hackathon deadline, we decided to scrap our original idea entirely and go for something fun and new. This added time crunch made Kalimba 95 a special feat of scope and time management.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are most proud of the core gameplay mechanics of Kalimba 95. Since Kiro and Claude handled the implementation, we were able to try out many different mechanic ideas and pick the ones that felt most engaging.

What we learned

We learned how to plan and stage long-running tasks to build projects with agentic tools. Our previous experience with Kiro CLI for games had more limitations, but we were able to be entirely hands-off the code after the planning phase.

What's next for Kalimba 95

Let us know if you enjoy Kalimba 95's gameplay! It leans on Windows 95 / XP / 7 assets currently, so future work would feature original OS designs.
