Inspiration
When we first saw the three personas, we gravitated towards Relocation Rachel pretty quickly. Moving anywhere is always a big change in life, and we think that current social media or event apps don't do a good job at encouraging people to connect in real life. We wanted to take the best elements of those apps and recreate them in a way that is more appealing to someone like Rachel while adding some flair to make the overall experience more fun.
What it does
Introducing KaleiGo, a more visually appealing and engaging way to connect with others in the place where you live. We loved the idea of the website Wplace, so we wanted to have a map of events where custom overlays/art can be added by you or others to make it more personalized. Depending on the type, length, and size of the event, you can get points to use in the store to customize your profile and compete in a different way with those you meet. Go out, meet new friends and groups with similar interests, get points for items, and customize your Chameleon to be the best!
How we built it
Our application was built using React and Figma for front-end and Supabase for back-end. We used the Leaflet and Router React libraries to implement the main map and page navigation.
Challenges we ran into
The primary challenge we ran into was finding libraries to implement the functions we wanted in the app and learning how capable each library was at fulfilling that function. It took a lot of time to understand what we were working with and the connecting blocks to put it all together.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud that we were able to learn and incorporate enough technologies in order to have a working front-end and back-end. We are all at different skill levels, but we were still able to divvy up the tasks efficiently. Our team is very happy that we have a working product with features that would make it into a final app.
What we learned
This was our team's first time competing in a hackathon and developing full-stack. We learned more about using Git/GitHub, connecting different technologies together, and creating visual design elements.
What's next for KaleiGo
Looking towards the future, we would want to further polish the app and fully implement all the features for each element of the app. For example, developing a more robust store, adding more tags for events, and maybe designing more customizations for the map.
