Inspiration

As college students ourselves we found that we all struggle with our finances. We grew up in a system where financial literacy was not a priority leading us to create an app that'll solve our lack of knowledge in this subject.

What it does

Our app focuses on financial tracking, specifically for managing subscriptions since many college students often end up taking advantage of student deals. It gives users a platform to organize their money by inputting their subscriptions and it's data into a simple format that's easy to read. The features include an overview of the programs they're subscribed to and easy access to information that could help increase their knowledge in finances. They're also given data in forms of graphs to help analyze the money thats been spent and their actual weekly/monthly usage of the program. This is created using the Screen Time API for Apple and UsageStatsManager API for Android. These APIs will gather the users phone data and through an algorithm the app will be able to recognize subscriptions that haven't been used in a couple of weeks. These subscriptions would then be flagged as red in the overview, meaning that the app recommends the user to end the subscription. There would also be optional notifications where the user could be reminded of the next payment for a certain subscription or where they could receive words of encouragement to learn about budgeting, credit cards, loans, etc.

How we built it

Due to our lack of experience and expertise, we as a group decided it would be best to use Figma to design a protype for our app. We built it from scratch, from the logo to the boxes within the app that would be a button to our next page.

Challenges we ran into

As said earlier before it was difficult to bring the idea to life due to us being only Programming I students. Though we tried to used ReactNative in the beginning it ultimately led us to a roadblock as it was a completely unknown realm for us. To solve this we decided to use Figma. It would not force us to using code but it still pushed us to learn and put our creative minds to work.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are extremely ecstatic that we had created a demo of our app. We genuinely believed that we wouldn't be able to create anything without great knowledge in code. We overcame this fear by constantly researching on how to use Figma and worked as a team to pick each other up and lean on each other.

What we learned

As a team we learned collaboration on a new level and a great understanding of Figma. All of us had been new Hackathons and had only met a few minutes before getting to work. Putting our egos aside and listening to each others ideas became vital in our work ethic. Figma, a program none of us had used before, became almost like a second language by the end of this.

What's next for Kake Dev

Kake Dev will continue to protype this and use tech as a creative outlet for our ideas. Hopefully in the future when we have become more experienced we will finish this project with all the code and the implementation of the APIS and launch it.
