Inspiration
Social media used to be the ultimate platform to showcase what makes us, us. Family members, projects we pride ourselves on, and so, so much more.
Somewhere along the way, we started valuing volume over significance. Flashiness over intention. We meet people so often and exchange our Instagram accounts, but do we really remember where we've met these people a few months down the road? Can you tell who they are simply with a glance at their bloated, time-sensitive grid of recent posts?
What it does
KaDo is a reimagining of the social media playground. Instead of giving you an infinite canvas to work with, KaDo gives its users one virtual card of limited size each, and a bunch of stickers to express what defines them as a person.
A new way to meet new people. Wondering if you should share your Instagram, LinkedIn or mobile numbers with someone you met at a party? KaDo allows you to do all three, all at once. Plus, see their KaDo namecard and find out what Bob values the most in life.
Where, when, who? Every KaDo user you exchange namecards with will be etched into the back of your virtual card, together with the location you met them in, and the month of that year. No more forgetting where you met 'Sarah' from. And yes, the third one.
A card archive. A time capsule. KaDo namecards have immutable canvases after each sticker is applied! A new card is issued to all users every year, and an archive of cards keep your memories -- and your defining moments as a person -- intact.
Instantly share the most intentional information. You pick. Scan someone else's KaDo QR, choose what contact information to share and what not to. Perfect for Friday meetings and the party afterwards.
Make your own stickers. No limits! Upload your images and have them processed as valid stickers for your KaDo namecard. Be thoughtful about what you post! KaDo stickers are not removable, hot tip: you can cover the old ones with newer stickers ;)
How we built it
KaDo is built on React Native with TypeScript, Python and Flask, and is powered by Google Cloud Services for its backend and content management systems.
Challenges we ran into
Developing full-stack on React Native and Google Cloud platform proved to be a welcome challenge. We are web developers who learnt a lot about the quirks (and perks!) of working on a mobile platform.
What's next for KaDo - Your Personalised Calling Card
We're excited to bring KaDo to full-scale development! We believe in its business development potential, as well as the opportunities it provides to offer something new to the social media space. We also envision bringing KaDo cards to real life as NFC-powered name cards, with your connections of that year printed on the back for your memories, forever.
