KAAVAL AI
Inspiration
Every year, more than 100,000 people go missing in India. Thousands of unidentified bodies remain in morgues, and families wait in agony without closure. Traditional manual matching takes weeks or months.
We were inspired to ask: “Can AI restore identities and reunite families in seconds?”
That question gave birth to KAAVAL AI — The Guardian System.
⚙️ What it does
KAAVAL AI is a real‑time facial recognition and reconstruction platform that:
- Detects faces in live camera feeds at 30 FPS
- Reconstructs damaged or decayed faces in < 1 second
- Matches against missing persons databases with 96.2% recognition accuracy
- Alerts authorities instantly with location + confidence score
--> From weeks of anguish to seconds of hope.
🛠️ How we built it
- Languages: Python, JavaScript
- Frameworks: PyTorch/TensorFlow (AI), FastAPI (backend), React/Next.js (frontend)
- Libraries: OpenCV, Dlib, FaceNet for vision tasks
- Databases: PostgreSQL / MongoDB for registry + embeddings
- Cloud: AWS + Docker/Kubernetes for scalable deployment
- OCR: Tesseract/EasyOCR for damaged or partial images
🚧 Challenges we ran into
- Handling low‑quality or decayed images from morgues/disaster zones
- Achieving real‑time speed without losing accuracy
- Balancing privacy, ethics, and security in sensitive data
- Integrating with existing police and hospital systems
🏆 Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Achieved < 1 second reconstruction time
- Delivered 97.4% detection accuracy in challenging conditions
- Built a scalable architecture ready for national deployment
- Designed a system that can transform tragedies into reunions
📚 What we learned
- Technology must be paired with empathy to create real impact
- AI can act as a guardian, not just a tool
- Collaboration with law enforcement and healthcare is essential
- Every technical milestone feels meaningful when tied to saving lives
🚀 What’s next for KAAVAL
- Nationwide Registry Integration across police departments
- Mobile App for Families to upload missing persons photos directly
- Expanded Capabilities: voice matching, gait analysis, cross‑border tracking
- Disaster Response Mode for rapid victim identification
- Global Vision: ensuring no one vanishes without hope of return
“KAAVAL AI — Every face deserves to be found. Every family deserves closure. Every story deserves an ending.”
