Inspiration

After more than two decades as a game designer, I still think the classic 52-card deck may be the ultimate game system—simple, universal and endlessly replayable.

I wanted K3NGS to pay homage to that. Despite the enduring popularity of card games, I saw no platform celebrating the incredible physical decks created by independent artists around the world.

K3NGS brings those decks to life digitally—letting players enjoy the card games they already love while discovering, playing with and collecting beautiful works of art.

What it does

K3NGS is a shared collectible ecosystem built around classic card games and real-world artists.

Players can discover a deck through Solitaire, collect its cards, then take that same collection with them into future K3NGS games such as FreeCell, Spider, Poker and Hearts.

For artists, K3NGS provides a new way for their work to be discovered, played with and monetised. For players, every familiar card game contributes to one growing collection.

Discover. Play. Collect.

How we built it

K3NGS began with Solitaire: one of the most universally understood card games and the perfect foundation for proving the concept.

The experience combines familiar, accessible gameplay with a collection system, high-quality 3D representations of physical decks, artist showcases, shared accounts and a backend designed to support multiple games from the outset.

RevenueCat provides the foundation for managing purchases and entitlements as that ecosystem grows across games and platforms.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge has been resisting the temptation to build everything at once.

K3NGS has ambitions spanning multiple games, hundreds of decks, progression, quests, subscriptions and a shared economy. The challenge has been designing systems that can eventually support that vision while keeping the first release focused, understandable and achievable.

There is also a delicate balance between creating a beautiful digital experience and ensuring the interface never competes with the artists' work.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud that K3NGS has evolved beyond simply being "another Solitaire game."

We've built the foundations of an ecosystem where playing one game contributes to something larger: a persistent collection of beautiful playing cards that gains utility as new K3NGS games are released.

We're particularly proud to be building it around real artists and real physical decks, creating a relationship where their artwork isn't decoration around the game—it is the content players are discovering and collecting.

What we learned

We've learned that familiarity can be a powerful foundation for innovation.

We don't need to reinvent card games. Millions of people already understand and love them. The opportunity is to build something meaningful around those games: discovery, collecting, progression and a connection to the artists behind the cards.

We've also learned that restraint matters. When the artwork is this good, great UX often means getting everything else out of its way.

What's next for K3NGS

First, we're launching K3NGS Solitaire and expanding the catalogue of independent artists and decks.

From there, we'll introduce more classic card games, with every new game connecting back into the same player collection. Cards and decks discovered in one K3NGS experience become meaningful across the others.

Long term, the ambition is simple:

One collection. A world of artists. Every card game you love.
