Inspiration
We have been inspired by a quote from Thilo Schaeffer, former COO from Lufthansa Cargo whom mentioned during the IATA WCS 2015: “Today shipment movements drive information, but tomorrow, information must drive shipment movements”. ONE Record will help moving from Analog to digital by exchanging data. During the 2024 WCS, Ingrid Lee said that “Digitalization is about change management”, so we see ONE Record as an ENABLER of new efficient business processes for the Air Cargo industry. In conclusion, we need to stop using our computers like typewriters. ONE Record will enable COLLABORATION beyond our ego-system and will help to improve the competitiveness of our industry. Airlines could be more dynamic in powering global trade more efficiently.
What it does
K-ARGOS is a WEB BASED application which enables 3 key principles:
1) Perform compliance check by converting e-commerce data into Logistics Objects which will be used to determine if some data are on sanctions lists, forbidden for transportation or could potentially hide dangerous goods. The LO are sent to an actor such as PANDORA Intelligence who use special web credentials to exchange information with authorities and supply recommendations.
2) Identify the number of ULD needed per Air Waybill and alert in the event of weight breach following Cargo Handling Manual safety instructions.
We used RISK LEVEL ESTIMATES to classify pieces by inspection calls. The idea is to group all items with higher inspection risks into the same container to avoid penalizing all the pieces from the same Air Waybill.
3) Provide a universal SEARCH ENGINE which can be used irrespective of the data type. As a result, a buyer can search for a shipment using his name, a logistic player a tracking number, a GHA a ULD number, or an Airline a flight or an Air waybill number.
We focused on the main pain points identified during our market engagement.
How we built it
- For the animation we have used Vyond and Canva.
- For the coding we used Angular Typescript for the UI frontend. We used the Pandora Intelligence API for the risk analysis per e-commerce piece. We used Champ's very own CDMP Track and Trace application and also Champ's Track and Trace API.
Challenges we ran into
- It is not easy to process tens of thousands of e-commerce items, analyze each one for custom's risk inspection probability and then use One Record to store all the data just for one PreLoad or PreArrival e-commerce filing data. Imagine for multiple more shipments for a given day.
- Assigning tens of thousands of e-commerce items to their ULDs based on risk inspection probability and weight limit per ULD is not an easy task but we are able to provide a solution that makes it easier for the GHA, carrier and customs to have a simple and more elegant solution to avoid a major pain point in the existing workflow.
- Internet connectivity.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Getting the CHAMP team together.
- Networking with other teams.
- Managed to finish in time.
What we learned
- Pain points have been validated by a Chinese GHA.
- NE:ONE Play capabilities.
What's next for K-ARGOS
- Present K-ARGOS to CHAMP Airlines and GHA to identify potential PoC.
- Use animation for CHAMP training Academy.
- Discuss with ICCS for potential ONE Record PoC.
