Inspiration
We were inspired by social media/internet activism, and wanted to create an open-sourced platform for users to post their uncensored injustices on.
What it does
Our web forum application can create posts that incorporates likes and comments. It can also filter posts base on the urgency of specific posts.
How we built it
After deciding on this idea, we conceptualized a UML diagram to figure out our system. We took a base template for a message board and slowly modified the functionality and style of the website. We built this web application using html, css, javascript, firebase, tears, sleepless night and caffeine.
Challenges we ran into
The main challenge we encountered is using firebase to store our data for posts and comments. Figuring out the documentation and parsing the data was quite difficult to debug. Trying to implement DOM manipulation was also quite challenging as it was the first time one of the members implemented this.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of implementing the front-end and the back-end of the project by scratch in 24 hours.
What we learned
We learned how to use firebase as a database for our posts/comments. We spent majority of the time learning how to store data and retrieve and filter date using firebase.
What's next for Justice Served
We want Justice Served to be a primary platform where movements can get started and gain traction on so that individual posts can be shared on bigger social media outlets and taken seriously right away.
