Inspiration

This project started with the Shipaton's Yoga & Fitness Influencer Award, judged by Simone Sharice, and its question: "What should I do today?" Instead of building another workout library, I asked what it would look like to build an app around a creator's existing content.

Simone Sharice's brief put it perfectly: her audience of professionals, entrepreneurs, caregivers and moms "do not need more advice; they need help deciding what to do today." Wellness has become overwhelming, with more apps, more videos and more plans to choose from.

So instead of building another workout library, I built Justa around one question, "What should I do today?", and around Simone's existing Pilates classes. Tell Justa how you feel, and it gives you one clear, achievable plan for today.

What it does

  • Energy (1–5) and sleep (rough night, okay, slept great)
  • Sore areas: neck, shoulders, back, hips, legs, arms, core
  • Time available: 15, 30, 45, or 60 minutes
  • What you need most: energize, calm, strengthen, or recover

Justa combines this with your profile (daily routine, goals, experience level, the ways you like to move, and the equipment you have) and builds one plan for today:

  • On a low-energy or sore day, you get a gentle recovery session: breathing, stretching, and yoga with animated pose demonstrations, step-by-step cues, and a session timer.
  • On a good day with Pilates as a preference, Justa picks one of 11 curated classes by Simone Sharice that fits your energy, time, and equipment, prefers classes you haven't done yet, and adds a short guided breathing cool-down. The class opens on YouTube (Simone's original upload), and you come back to mark it complete.

After each session, you can share a Story-ready card ("I showed up for me."), and your history, streak, weekly view, and achievements build the habit. A gentle recovery session counts just as much as a hard one.

How we built it

  • React Native + Expo (SDK 57) with Expo Router, Lottie, and SVG animations for the guided exercises
  • A rules-based plan engine: check-in + profile → plan vibe (gentle/balanced / energizing) → exercises from a curated library, or one of Simone's classes when conditions fit (energy, sleep, soreness, runtime, equipment, experience level)
  • Simone Sharice class catalog: each class verified from its original YouTube upload (runtime, equipment, difficulty), with her permission. Justa links to her videos; it never downloads or rehosts them.
  • RevenueCat (react-native-purchases) for monetization:
    • Every user gets 3 personalized plans free; the count is stored in the secure keychain so reinstalling doesn't reset it
    • Justa Premium unlocks unlimited plans and full session history, with monthly and yearly subscriptions
    • One premium entitlement; prices come from the current RevenueCat Offering rather than being hard-coded, and Restore Purchases is available in onboarding and Settings
  • expo-notifications for an optional daily check-in reminder

Justa v1.0 is live on the App Store.

Challenges we ran into

  • Overengineering the plan. My original plan was a five-week build. I realized that wasn't going to ship, so I cut scope hard and built the core loop (check-in → plan → guided session) in about two weeks.
  • Matching a creator's classes to a real day. Recommending a video is easy; recommending the right one is not. I had to catalog each class's true runtime (titles often understate it), required equipment and intensity, and write rules for when not to recommend a class, such as poor sleep, soreness, or low energy, so the app never pushes a hard workout on the wrong day.
  • Naming. I wanted a coined, unique name rather than a common word, and many favorites were taken. It went from Rise to Soft Move to, finally, Justa.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Shipping a real app. Justa went from idea to a live App Store release during the Shipaton window, built in about two weeks after cutting scope from a five-week plan.
  • An app that answers "What should I do today?" The same check-in gives a completely different day: a gentle recovery session when you're tired and sore, or a Pilates class with Simone Sharice when you have energy. Justa recommends less when that's what your body needs.
  • Building around a creator the right way. 11 of Simone's classes cataloged by hand (true runtime, equipment, difficulty), used with her permission, linking to her original videos instead of rehosting them.
  • Guidance you can trust. 42 curated exercise animations, a validation script so no exercise shows the wrong move, and an original push-up animation built from scratch.
  • Monetization that feels fair. 3 free plans with the full experience, then Premium through RevenueCat, with monthly and yearly subscriptions, a single premium entitlement, live prices from RevenueCat Offerings, and Restore Purchases.
  • A calm, cohesive design. An earthy olive and cream visual identity across onboarding, check-in, sessions, and the shareable "I showed up for me." card.

What we learned

  • Visual accuracy matters in fitness: a demo animation is an instruction, so it has to be the right one
  • Shipping a smaller, real product beats planning a perfect one
  • Recommending a gentle day is a feature, not a failure state
  • Designing around a creator's existing content is a different (and fun) product problem than building content from scratch
  • A clear free tier (3 plans) and a trial let people feel the value before the paywall

What's next for Justa: Pilates & Yoga

  • Voice guidance (ElevenLabs) for a warmer, eyes-free session experience
  • Smarter recommendations as check-in history builds
  • A deeper integration with Simone's content library
