Just In Case

Inspiration

One of our member's parents cut open an onion and put it in her room because she read somewhere that it kills the Coronavirus. So we decided to make an web application to bust these myths once and for all.

What it does

In a world where there are many news sources providing a range of information about the Coronavirus, our goal is to create a quiz to raise awareness of the false information that is being spread, and give an accurate base of understanding.

How we built it

We started with creating an group within the slack channel that allowed us to video call with all members and screen share. This wasn't sufficient enough when we had to split into two different groups of React front-end and Ruby on Rails back-end, so we decided to move on to discord where we can split into different channels and communicate easily.

Challenges we ran into

It was hard coming up with a unique idea in an environment where most of our ideas have been done, or were outside our skill set, so we decided to go the more personal route and tried to create something to help a fellow member of our team.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

What we hope to have accomplished with this project is to have addressed some common misconceptions that people have about COVID-19, and to provide them with trustworthy resources to help them make better decisions to keep themselves and their loved ones safe.

What we learned

We learned that there is a lot of misunderstanding around the idea of coronavirus and it is our job to keep the internet honest.

What's next for Just In Case

The plans for the future is to provide more resources that can help people understand things they can do and not during coronavirus. Including unemployment help, stress relief, things to do, and external help when needed.
