Our Story
We built JuroSwipe because we were tired of running on autopilot.
Even during walks, our minds were constantly drifting --- thinking about food, life, the future, random worries. One day, my friend and I started asking each other small, open-ended questions. Not deep therapy stuff, just thoughtful things like "what does comfort mean to you?" or "what's something you're unlearning?" And slowly, those conversations started helping us pause and reflect. That's what inspired this project. We wanted to create a space where people could slow down for a moment and connect with themselves.
We knew journaling was powerful, but honestly, building a habit around it isn't easy. That's where the swiping idea came in. Instead of a blank page, why not start with a tiny prompt? Something that nudges you to reflect but doesn't feel like a task. Something that can even make you smile.
We started with a very basic version using a few system-generated prompts. But soon we realized people have so much wisdom within them. What if we allowed users to create prompts for others? That's when it started feeling more alive and more human. So we added the ability to write and share your own prompts and see how many others are journaling from them.
What it does
JuroSwipe is a playful and mindful journaling experience. Users can swipe through thoughtful prompts, reflect instantly, and log their entries - no pressure, no long forms. It offers a "Surprise Me" mode, category filters, and 21-day guided packs for deeper journeys like "Inner Calm" and "Confidence Builder." Users can also create their own prompts, view reflections, and personalize their profiles. It's designed to make journaling feel light, human, and habit-forming.
How We Built It
We used Bolt AI to build the entire experience. The first version focused on swiping prompts and writing reflections. Then came categories, filters, guided 21-day journeys, the profile system, and a bunch of small design choices to make the space feel calming and warm.
We integrated Supabase for user accounts and storage, designed a pastel interface, added a swipe animation (that was harder than we expected), and made sure everything felt mobile-friendly and light.
What We Learned
Honestly, everything. From managing database schema to writing better copy to improving mobile layout without breaking the desktop view. We also learned how to simplify. Every time we tried to overbuild, the app became clunky. So we kept asking ourselves, "what makes this delightful?" and built from there.
The Challenges
So many! But one that really tested us was making sure users could swipe prompts fluidly on mobile. It kept breaking or feeling off. After a bunch of failed fixes and frustrating tests, we ended up adding a little swipe animation icon to guide users. That tiny tweak made a huge difference.
Another challenge was making sure guest users could explore the app but not save data unless they signed in. It took a lot of trial and error to get right. Eventually, we restructured the authentication logic and gave people enough freedom to explore before asking them to sign in.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of how consistent and cohesive the user experience feels---everything from the swipe view to the guided journeys and the pastel design contributes to a calm and thoughtful atmosphere. The ability for users to create and share prompts is also something we're really excited about. Seeing people engage with reflections written by others made the app feel like a little journaling community.
What's next for JuroSwipe
We want to improve the mobile experience even further and bring more creators on board to curate prompt packs like therapists, artists, educators. We're also planning to add gentle journaling reminders, mood tracking, an AI report feature that gives unique insights to users based on their journaling patterns, and a community feature to share anonymous reflections. There's something really human about journaling together, even in silence, and we want JuroSwipe to become that soft corner of the internet where people just feel safe to pause and think.
