Inspiration

We were inspired to create this project because of our problems with coming up with plans between friends, where we would usually choose places that would be far from a couple of our friends within the group. To solve this, we figured it would be useful to find an intermediate region for reunions and to get recommendations for meet-up spots near that midpoint to guarantee we meet up relatively close for everybody.

What it does

A person from the group creates a session/group and invites the rest of the group so everyone inputs their location on the map. Then, a region in the middle of everyone's location shows up and the users can choose to get recommendations for spots of specific categories, such as movie theaters, restaurants, museums, etc.

How we built it

We started with a basic UI design, then designed the front end and connected it to the database to store data from rooms and users. Then, we built the map screen and made an algorithm to find the midpoint between several location markers on the Google Maps API we implemented. We then added the implementation of Google Places API to get place recommendations relative to the midpoint region.

Challenges we ran into

For security reasons, we were not able to use location services on our web server.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Completing a functional prototype within the time limit.

What we learned

We learned about Google Cloud Service APIs and implementing them.

What's next for JuntaT

We plan on adding additional options for a better recommendation system as well as the possibility of changing the midpoint region's radius to the user's desire. Commenting on the point mentioned previously, we would obtain a security certificate in order to be able to safely run location services for a better user experience.
