With a mission to democratize education for all, JunoEd was built to help educate blue-collar workers in the UK in industry-specific domain knowledge. We are still working to deliver on that promise but with a new perspective. I personally am trying to build an AI-powered app that will act as your own personal teaching. It will know your strengths and gaps in knowledge and cater the lessons suited to your unique needs.
Let's call the product Juno (after the planet named Juno). Juno is an AI-powered teaching assistant that uses computers to do some (gradually most) of the work that teachers normally do. The program works by looking at the work that students turn in and then giving feedback based on what it finds. For example, if a student makes a common mistake, Juno can recognize it and explain why it's wrong. It can also suggest ways for students to improve their work and give them resources to help them understand the material better.
Stanford has done a prototype test of the model to see how well it works. They gave a group of students some assignments and had the AI model grade them, and then we had some human teachers grade the same assignments. We found that the AI performed better than human teachers in terms of giving accurate grades and feedback.
We think it could be really helpful for teachers, especially in situations where there are a lot of students or where teachers don't have a lot of time to give feedback to each student individually. They think that it could be especially useful in online classes or in situations where students are learning from home.
