Inspiration
The tooth farry which is a fantasy figure of early childhood. the tradition of leaving a tooth under a pillow for the tooth fairy to collect is practiced in various countries so we can understand that children believe in fantasy characters which gave me an idea to develop a prototype named JUNO
What it does
JUNO involves the child in a story with a fantasy character name and make him feel that he’s a part of the tale, the child’s parent will sure know what fantasy character the child likes and should give the input to the device accordingly
The device acts as a virtual friend(interacts), a mentor( juno teaches dos and don'ts, rhymes, good behaviours etc) and also a story teller(narrates stories with good morals during bedtime)
How we built it
we used a raspberry pi-2 as the heart and built this portable device which come along with a few strips of RGB led's which will change the colours and intensity according to the stories ,this device can be connected to any display unit having a hdmi slot , the device is connected to the web via wifi for streaming the animated tales ,educational clips etc from the cloud and user can input details like name of tales, favourite character from smartphone app
Challenges we ran into
it was a time consuming project and we found it difficult to fix most of the bugs.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
this device can teach good morals , dos and don'ts , educate children and also be of great use to parents who cannot spend more time with their kids
What we learned
we got familiarised with developing android apps , UI's ,cloud computing .
What's next for JUNO
we are planing to develop our prototype into product and reducing the cost by building our own standalone micro-controller
