Inspiration

Believe it or not, we drew our inspiration from waste! After having realised our huge role in plundering our environment we decided to not only try to give it up but also help others alleviate this by doing their role. We were inspired from this need to not let our consumerist natures completely destroy our beautiful environment.

What it does

Our project, JunkAlly, acts as a bridge between small businesses/NGOs (who upcycle/recycle waste) and us consumers (notorious for generating the waste). It does so, by arranging for a pick up from the users for their waste and delivering them with our partners. The small businesses and NGOs get their material and the users, in turn for their initiative, get points in accordance with the weight of the waste that they've submitted which they can avail to get vouchers and discount coupons from our partners.

How we built it

We built it using the tech stacks mentioned below in addition to fully utilizing GitHub and the "Live Share" extension on VS Code, which proved to be extremely helpful since we're all still at our respective homes. We started by jotting down what features we want to include followed by the design of the user interface. Thereafter, we brainstormed and came up with this deliverable.

Challenges we ran into

The only challenges we ran through were the occasional power cuts and poor internet connections.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're extremely proud of our user interface and the fact that we incorporated backend in our project. We were able to come up with this idea and make this website in under 2 days and we're just so proud of our resilience.

What we learned

We learned how important good communication AND empathy is. Not only were we all very respectful of each other but we were extremely mindful of each other's health too. We've emerged with a stronger skillset and a better idea about problem solving. We learned to collaborate effectively while sitting at homes, and honestly, the learning was just unparalleled. We were glued to our seats because of the sheer fun we were having!

What's next for JunkAlly

JunkAlly has tremendous potential to become a one-stop destination for recycling. We plan to collaborate with NGOs and small businesses in real time, and also introduce upcycling whereby users will be able to repurpose their waste into aesthetic knick-knacks and even items of daily use!
