What it does

Our website application brings attention to space junk pollution through a game simulation. The game simulation has the player attempt to land 100 spaceships on the moon, however space junk is constantly orbiting in the atmosphere. In the game when you send a spaceship out into space, you have to aim it past the debris field, if it is destroyed, the space junk multiplies. The game roughly simulates the difficulty of sending out spacecraft and the consequences of not cleaning up space junk.

How we built it

We used Phaser to create a physics simulation and a User Interface to make a 2d pixel simulator.

Challenges we ran into

Learning a framework in less than a day, brainstorming, physic simulations, time restrictions, lack of knowledge, and learning UI development for the first time.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Composing physics simulations in javascript, learning a framework in one day, working 10 hours straight, and creating a functional User Interface and creating a minimum viable product.

What we learned

We learned how to use Phaser, how to visualize physics around a point, how to use git in a team environment, how simulate a real-world problem, and how to approach a hackathon.

What's next for Junk Joyride

User interface refinement, launcher physics refinement, round-based game mechanics, satellites and their benefits, user experience refinements such as fixing menu overlay conflicts, and animations with user interface mechanics.
