Inspiration

On TikTok, I been seeing a lot of juniors being stressed and having no idea what to do. Not only they have to do their classes, but think about college as well. My brother said that his junior year was the hardest year.

What it does

It is a website with multiple html pages dedicated to help guide high school juniors to be prepare for college. It also provides virtual calming space and bunch of community resources to help with personal problems (thinking about college can be stressful).

How I built it

Using the platform repl.it (browser based IDE), I use html/css. For some of the pictures, I use Adobe Spark to make it. I also got help from W3Schools.

Challenges I ran into

My biggest challenge is getting all the information aligned. Some would be all the way on the left, while some are centered. When it was on the left, there was no spacing between the text and the outer background. I finally fix this problem by creating "alignMe" that has the same color background as "whitePage" where it can look nicer.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I manage to create a webpage using html/css. This is also my first hackathon, so I'm pretty proud of myself for completing this project and going out of my comfort zone.

What I learned

As a upcoming junior, I had no idea what I need to do during junior year. I also realized that I wasn't the only who was struggling with this, so I decided to research of all the things we need to get done, and created a timeline for it. I summarized all the information and turn it into bullet points so that people can use it like a checklist. Then I turned it into a webpages to help my classmates and fellow upcoming juniors. During this, I learned a lot about preparing for college during my junior year. Coming into this hackathon, I have 0 experience with html/css, but in just 24 hours, I learned how to use html/css.

What's next for Juniors' Guide to College [High School Headaches]

The information is very specific for my high school's juniors (ex. we use Naviance). I would like to expand it so that it can includes all juniors. I also want to add to my virtual calming space (maybe music and meditation techniques).
