Inspiration
After looking through the hackathon challenges, the Desjardins concept spoke to us the most. After further thinking about the current downfall of our economics, we thought it would be a fun and useful idea to create a website where users, of mostly younger generations, can learn more about different aspects surrounding finance.
What it does
This is a banking platform made to teach children or young teens about finance, an especially important concept considering the current economic state of the world. Users have to keep track of their expenses, buy items to stay alive (or for bonuses!), can learn about interest rates and can even invest in stocks. JungleBank also allows users to play games where they must collect coins and find treasure chests in order to earn more money! Based on current real-world timing, scenes change from day to night. The app is also very accessible. That being said, it can be used via mouse/keyboard, as well as through voice activation.
How we built it
We built JungleBank using a React front-end and an Express backend. We also incorporated the Godot game engine for further interactivity!
Challenges we ran into
We ran into various challenges mostly surrounding Godot since we barely had prior experience with the engine. There were also issues with some of our personal computers.. (it works on my machine!!)
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're very proud of the app as a whole! Creating the games on Godot and the voice activation were definitely the icing on the cake. Seeing everything come together in the end was exhilarating.
What we learned
Other than the functionalities of the game engine and how to incorporate AI into our app, we learned important lessons surrounding time management and effective teamwork!
What's next for JungleBank
More game levels!!! :D
