The developer team from Gothenburg University set out to enrich the average consumers experience with the energy industry. The designed product was envisioned as a mobile application with object recognition capabilities. The users would simply point their mobile phone to an electronic appliance and be presented with electrical usage in augmented reality. The app will also incorporate the Fortum data to detect the users' home locations and scan the house for power sockets. Once the scan's completed the users would be granted access to a map of their electrical usage over a period of time. The users can connect their application to a specific house/household. To encourage a greener future app users will be able to add notes to electrical devices to reminder to their family and friends to encourage smart energy consumption and to have fun! In the future Energy Reality could also include scanning of new devices to the database of recognized devices. Users could share data to increase awareness of energy consumption and improve the overall electrical infrastructure across the globe.
Overall our team enjoyed working on this project and with new exciting technologies. Exploring the data provided by Fortum challenged us to think what the future could hold. We are excited to continue to explore the possibilities of intelligent buildings. It was a great learning experience!
