Inspiration
Migrant workers go through immense conditions to build our country's infrastructure. However, most of them do not lead an easy life. Often living on the edge when it comes to money and comfort and we want to change that.
What it does
Our website application serves as an convenient and centralized platform for migrant workers in the construction, marine shipyard and process sectors to handle and take care of their welfare. Our website application has services such as healthcare, legal aid, counselling and more. It will ultimately serve as an one-stop platform to obtain free necessities and information.
How we built it
As a team, we all split into different roles to handle different aspects of this project. Our product design team worked tirelessly to produce a working prototype of our website application. Our presentation and Research team worked closely with our product design team to come up with an appealing and informative presentation. Last but not least, our Video and photo editing team made sure all of our resources in the form of content are visually appealing to our audience.
Challenges we ran into
Some challenges we ran into include, lack of manpower, funding and limited access to advance technology to further build our project
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud to announce that our prototype testing is officially complete, we also have contacted multiple organizations to partner with such as, ItsRainingRaincoats, HOME, SWAP and many more. We have showcased our project to directors of our school, Institute of Technical Education (College West) and have gotten many positive and valuable feedback regarding our project.
What we learned
Despite the challenges we have faced throughout the duration of making our project. We have learnt many things such as, team collaboration and that communication and coordination with members are of utmost importance. Negotiation with organizations to get them on board to partner with us. Planning and organizing our team when in face of unforeseen challenges as well as conducting our own research to gather information.
What's next for JTM.COM
For the future of our team, we intend to further expand and collaborate with more organizations, build our reputation and gain recognition for the next phase of our project. One example of an process we intend to follow through will be to practice the installations of "Pop-up" stalls and start the process of movement of items to these stalls. These "Pop-up" stalls will serve as a place for migrant workers to collect the free items they booked online while also serving as a place for them to obtain information regarding any of their potential needs. Moving forward, no matter the challenges and or progress we make, we will always have the wellbeing of the migrant workers in mind.
