Inspiration

We procrastinate too much when we have tests and results to show. We wanted to make a way to keep us on task.

What it does

JSON is a robot that uses an API to track your screen. First, you input your task (e.g., "I want to study for my physics midterm"). It will essentially read your window title, and the API will identify if the title is related to your task. The Claude API also backchecks it with the Python code to match buzzwords that count as being off task, e.g., Instagram. If the window is related to your task, the LCD displays a positive comment, the LED stays green, and the OLED displays a happy face. Once the window title switches to match one of the buzzwords, the program starts producing beeps, the LED switches to orange, the LCD displays a message warning you, and the head of the robot starts to shake. Now the claude api reads the window title, detecting if there is something related to the task set. For example, if you open YouTube, the Python program knows that it is considered off task. But if you open a video related to physics, the claude api reacts and identifies that it is on task, calming the system down and displaying a green LED. Claude API also tracks window titles outside of the buzzwords. The buzzwords are only there in case Wi-Fi were to go out, disconecting claude.

How we built it

Started with connecting all Arduino components to a breadboard. Tested the components with general Arduino code to make sure all components worked. Claude generated code for the Python detection. Tested the code and the Arduino to make sure it worked. Implemented the claude api. Created a base and body for the robot to make it look more presentable.

Challenges we ran into

Cable management, errors in Arduino code/setting up the Arduino components, making it look presentable.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Successfully wiring and getting components working on Arduino, and implementing the API.

What we learned

Cable management is hard, and the weight distribution was really tedious.

What's next for Procrastination Catcher Robot "JSON"

Next, we want to improve the design and make it work on other operating systems, not just Windows. Harder improvements include detecting distractions on other devices, such as your phone.
