Inspirations

In a world where bridging the gaps is significant for positive change, we researched different issues to come up with an impactful solution. We decided to focus on unemployment as a primary issue as rates have had a large dip during 2020 (presumably due to the pandemic), creating gaps in levels of unemployment between minorities and the status quo.

What we learned

While gathering research, we realized mental health of the unemployed demographic needed dire solutions. Depression was highly correlated with unemployed demographics, and minorities had larger levels of employment. However, career resources for entry-level job-hunters and those who have been laid-off showcase a need for resources that are easily accessible. Although some college students may be able to gain career guidance through foraging their university's resources, unemployed adults (25 - 40) have a hard time looking for career advice and guidance due to not having a safe environment or space of resources.

Introducing Jrny (Journey)

Meet Jrny (Journey)—a helpful tool for potential job-seekers and professionals, giving them a platform to connect with each other. These professionals serve as mentors, while those searching for jobs serve as mentees.

This platform provides a rewarding experience for both, as it matches mentors and mentees based on a set of questions regarding the user's stance on digital mindfulness.

Mentors can use their knowledge and experience to guide mentees.
Mentees can keep in touch with their mentors.

Challenges & Learnings

During implementation, we encountered a few challenges. Many of us were relatively new to UI/UX, so we had to learn and implement various Figma features throughout this designathon. Although the learning curve was steep, through the help of peers and research, we successfully executed our planned designs and user flows.
