Inspiration
Inspired by other teamwork-based games like Keep Talking and Nobody Explode where players needs constant communication in order to complete simple tasks.
Our objective
Three players are required to run a pirate ship. There are random events where players will need to perform in order to keep sailing and save the captain from getting scurvy. These random events are other pirate attacks, ship maintenance, and equipment maintenance. In order to take down another pirate ship, the players will need to communicate to align the ship in the right direction and then fire the cannon. If this task is not successfully completed after a few seconds, the ship will be taken over and the captain will be forced to walk the plank.
What it does
Currently, we have a working app with a GUI interface but the back-end is not connected with the front-end client and server. So if you download our project, do not expect a complete game as of right now (4/14/2019). The mobile app can only be explored if diving right into the downloaded project.
Challenges we ran into
network and client-server socket communication
How we built it
The entirety of the program is built using Java language. The front-end for mobile interface and activity was developed using Android Studio.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were proud of the effort we put into learning something we were not really familiar with in the short amount of time we had over the weekend
What we learned
How to code in Java and making Android app.
What's next for Journey to the Lost Orange
We plan to continue this game project on a later date and maybe try releasing it on the app store.
