Inspiration
Journalling has been shown to be beneficial in a variety of different ways: reducing stress-related doctor's visits, improved mood, and reducing symptoms of anxiety and depression.
We spoke to people about their journalling habits, pain points and blockers to maintaining a regular journalling practice. We learned that sometimes folks don't know what to write, and others get bored with their journalling routine, and are looking for more inspiration.
What it does
Enter Journally! Journally offers tailored journal prompts based on your emotions.
How we built it
We built Journally in React, with Javascript and CSS.
Challenges we ran into
We started using StackBlitz dev environment, and individually committed changes to GitHub, but ran into commit errors. Later we changed to using VSCode, and LiveShare, with our team lead committing our group changes to GitHub.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
This was our team's very first time building a website! We're all beginners, and some of us haven't even completed any computer science courses yet.
What we learned
We learned a lot about React, version control, and problem solving. Determining our goals for a 24-hour period was tricky -- it's quite short!
What's next for Journally
We have many ideas for a version 2.0, including the option to tailor prompts to specific life challenges (e.g. work/school challenges, relationship difficulties etc.). We also considered integrating cutting-edge AI technology. Users would have the option of uploading a photo of themselves and their micro-expressions would be detected by AI facial emotion recognition software. Subsequently, a prompt would be automatically generated based on the detected emotions.
