Inspiration
Journaling and reflecting on our day is what we decided to make our project about. We think it would help users have an interactive and digital journal that they can look back on.
What it does
It's a personalized sms-based journaling bot that gives you daily goals and lets you vent to it.
How we built it
All interaction is done through text with Twilio. On the backend we're using Node.js with Express, and are hosting on Glitch.
Challenges we ran into
Two teammates had little experience with Javascript so the project was also a tutoring lesson. At first, we aimed to store the database in MongoDB but realized it would be more efficient to store the data locally. Also it took some thought to handle persistent information without sessions.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The SMS Journal Buddy was viable to work when responded to through SMS.
What we learned
Twilio, Javascript, Express Node.js fundamentals.
What's next for Journal Buddy
Add more features that make it more advanced and interactive like predicting our emotion at a certain day using previous data. Also it would be big if it actively sent check up messages on its own instead of only responding.
