Inspiration

We've always wanted a clean and minimal notetaking app that allowed users to reorganize their notes as they wish. Most of the existing apps are either too complicated to use, require subscriptions or have user interfaces that are too simplistic and do not offer enough customisation.

What it does

Records notes and todo lists, and allows users to drag to rearrange their notes with ease

How we built it

Using the power of React native and PouchDB to produce a cross-platform app, prototyped using EXPO

Challenges we ran into

It was a lot harder than we envisioned it to be, with various unforseen bugs popping up along the way. ion addition, we had to make use of third party libraries to enable the drag to rearrange functionality, which meant that we had to spend time reading the documentation.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We produced an app that runs, and has barebones functionality.

What we learned

Mobile app development may seem easy nowadays, with the multitudes of convenient frameworks and third party libraries available, but the complexity of apps have also went up in the process, so it may not be easier to do mobile development.

What's next for Jott

Complete the functionality, including online sync as well as auto-text formatting ability, and perhaps the ability to upload notes that are not in text form.
